A case is designed around more than a phone's screen size. The frame, camera island, buttons and charging opening all have to line up. That is why an older iPhone case can look close enough in a photograph yet still be a poor fit on a newer model.
Read the complete model name
Start in your phone's settings or on its packaging. Write down the generation and variant: for example, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are not interchangeable. The same rule applies when comparing iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 models. Colour and storage capacity generally do not change case fit; the model variant does.
Look at the camera and controls
Check that the case opening follows the camera layout without pressing against the lenses. Buttons should click naturally, and any camera control should remain easy to use. A case that presses a button continuously or covers part of the camera is not the right match, even if the outer dimensions seem similar.

Check the edges with your other accessories
If you use a screen protector, look for a little clearance between its edge and the case lip. The case should hold the phone securely without lifting the protector at the corners. A raised rim may help keep the display and camera away from flat surfaces, but it does not replace careful handling.
What to verify before choosing
- The exact iPhone generation and variant are named in the product compatibility details.
- Camera, speaker, port and button openings match the device.
- The case works alongside the screen protector you plan to use.
- The grip and stand design suit how you hold or set down your phone.
